BT powder acts as insect killer spray for plants pest control

Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is an organic pesticide effective against various indoor insect pests like caterpillars, flies, beetles, and moths. This makes it an excellent option for protecting indoor plants. Bt powder harms insects upon contact. It does not, however, represent a hazard to humans, other animals, or birds. Additionally, the vast majority of beneficial insects are unaffected when they ingest it. Organic farmers commonly utilize it as a natural alternative to pesticides. Novobac produces bacillus thuringiensis products available for purchase, offering effective biological pest control options.

What does the natural tomato plant insecticide kill

•  Lepidoptera                                        •  Orthoptera

•  Coleoptera                                          •  Diptera

•  Hymenoptera                                    •  Pine Caterpillar

Mode of Action

Bacillus thuringiensis produces toxins called crystal proteins that specifically target certain insect species, including Orthoptera, Coleoptera, Diptera, and Hymenoptera, with a focus on Lepidoptera.

The two main toxoids produced by BTK and BTA are exotoxin and endotoxin (also known as parasporal crystals). The primary poisons are parasporal crystals.

Compared to chemical insecticides, the best indoor plant insecticide acts with high specificity, targeting specific groups of insects exclusively. After ingestion, the proteins from Bt disrupt the digestive system of the targeted insects, ultimately causing their demise.

Insects that have simple digestive systems may undergo quick destruction of their intestinal walls. This leads to the insects stopping their feeding and experiencing paralysis within a few minutes. This allows the vegetative bacteria cells to readily invade and pierce the intestinal wall. Pests finally succumb to hunger and infection, hemolymph.

The effects of BT powder take time to manifest and might begin working up to 2 days after ingestion. Therefore, it’s advisable to apply BT powder a few days ahead of traditional chemical agents. The impact is more noticeable when the moth is in its early stages of development.

Benefit

  • Effective insect killer against certain pests like Orthoptera, Coleoptera, Diptera, and Hymenoptera, particularly Lepidoptera in agriculture and forestry.
  • Safe for non-target insect species and mamals, environmentally friendly alternative to chemical insecticides.
  • It is easy to use and one can be apply it as a spray or incorporated it into seeds before planting.
  • It is compatible with integrated pest management (IPM) programs. These programs aim to reduce reliance on chemical pesticides by using a combination of control methods.
  • It has a long shelf life and retains effectivenesswhen stored for extended periods.
  • Organic farmers can use natural insect killers to control pests without violating the principles of organic agriculture.

How to use bacillus thuringiensis

  • Apply 0.75 to 1.5 kg per hectare to control newly hatched worms or at the first sign of egg-laying
  • Better to apply the product in the early morning or evening when the air is calm.
  • Simply mix BT powder with water as directed on the label.
  • To ensure complete control, be sure to thoroughly spray both the top and bottom surfaces of the leaves.

Application instructions

  • DO NOT apply the best indoor plant insecticide through any kind of irrigation system.
  • To ensure the effectiveness of BT biological food safe pesticide, susceptible insect larvae must ingest it. Therefore, it is crucial to completely cover the target foliage where larvae are feeding.
  • The best time to apply is when the larvae are small and newly hatched, and actively feeding.
  • Repeat applications may be necessary to maintain control, depending on the level of infestation.
  • Consider using a wetting agent. This can help enhance the wetting and distribution of BT powder, especially on challenging foliage like cruciferous plants.
  • Larvae and gypsy moth will stop feeding within a few hours and will die within 2-5 days.
